Bormio used to be called with the evocative name of “The
Magnificent Land“. Bormio with the neighboring valleys -
Valdidentro, Valdisotto, Valfurva and Livigno - gave origin to
the homonymous County.
The name bears witness to a past of great wealth due to the
convenient location of this village with a millennial charm: the
magnificent natural environment of a sun-drenched Alpine basin, an
important commercial crossroads for all goods passing into the area
to the North of Europe through the Alpine passes.
The splendour of noble County come alive even
today in the ancient streets of Bormio and its stately mansions,
in the courts and in the buildings, but also in the folklore that
the community repeats every year, like Carnival of Fools and the
Pasquali.
This link with the traditions and entrenched historical culture
have favoured the development of a superb natural environment
that allows you to experience the mountains in all seasons.
Bormio offers a wonderful ski area, with
perfectly snow-covered slopes in the winter season and the
possibility to practice summer skiing in the wonderful setting of
the Stelvio Pass. Outdoor activities are
practicable all year along many trails to explore
on foot or by mountain bike. The healthy mountain air regenerates
its guests even at the Baths of Bormio, where the
waters of hot springs known since antiquity feed outdoor pools,
which open onto a spectacular view of the ski
slopes.
