I have spent the holidays of the last twenty years traveling, but I always thought that sooner or later I
would find my refuge, a place to feel good about myself, where I could find energy.
In the summer 2018 I spent a
holiday with my family in Bormio, a place I had known well since I was a child. Animated by my usual curiosity for houses, I started looking at prices and inquiring about the real estate market, with my precise idea of a well-organized holiday home in the interior spaces, with a large balcony where you can expand the living space in the summer.
Nothing in the usual real estate circuits. Then I visited the Futura Immobili office and here I found the opportunity to see two recently started construction sites, where the size of the apartments corresponded to my parameters.
As an architect I would never have bought a house in the mountains if it hadn't been built with the most modern energy technologies, both for a due principle of environmental sustainability and for a factor in the economic management of maintenance costs.
The choice of a house, however, is not determined only by technical assessments, also the place, orientation, position, view, context are part of the value of a property.
The
Fochin residence has its centrality in the valley and is in a small hamlet of the
Valdidentro - in Piandelvino - where the essential services are located, the bus stop, the start of a walking system in summer and the cross-country circuit in winter , the cableway for the ski lifts, the sports centers of Isolaccia. The
thermal baths of Bormio and
golf are also close by car, and if I extend the radius of a few kilometers, Livigno, Santa Caterina and the Stelvio Pass are near.
My apartment is in one of the attics: seen on the sales catalog, it was immediately my first choice, although then, as always happens, the final decision was long discussed and rethought.
The apartment has been adapted with small, but important changes that have made it more functional and closer to our needs, giving up a second bedroom in favor of a well-equipped kitchen space and thus expanding the living area.
The ability to customize the finishes and materials of the floors, doors and coverings has helped to harmonize the rooms with the beautiful wooden structures of the roofs.
Exit on the terrace and you have a
beautiful view east-west, and to the south, right in front of the balcony, there is a
larch and pine forest that transmits natural energy and positivity.
My refuge has now been found and I am happy to live in an apartment that I designed in detail and it starts to contain many objects and photographs from my travels, architecture and golf books.
Thus I find the places where I spent many of my holidays as a boy; the times of the great companies of friends at the "Cariola", of the evenings in the discos, but also of
many walks up and down from Cancano, on the Stelvio, in Val Zebrù, to the Pizzini refuge and to the Branca, in Val Viola, in Livigno. Memories that remain indelible in my history, as well as the lines of the mountains of
my beloved valley.
